Simon Cox, MCIfA, Director

Simon has extensive experience in professional British heritage and archaeological practice. He was based in Bristol for eight years, working on a range of archaeological and heritage projects in the Bristol and Bath region, including desk-based assessments, archaeological fieldwork, historic building recording, post-excavation analysis, reporting/publication for a number of significant sites in Bristol, Gloucestershire, Somerset and beyond.
Simon relocated to the Cotswolds, in 2001, to take up a post as a Project Manager with Cotswold Archaeology. There, he continued to develop skills and knowledge in heritage services including archaeological fieldwork, post-excavation and publication. In 2007 Simon became the Head of Fieldwork at Cotswold Archaeology (CA), with strategic responsibility for the direction of the company’s field operations across the UK. This included management oversight of a number of large-scale projects involving joint ventures with other contractors, as well as day-to-day responsibility for quality, recruitment, training and health and safety. In 11 years in the role Simon was a key member of a senior management team that built CA’s field operations from one office with a handful of archaeologists to a well-trained team of up to 150 archaeologists based across four offices, and winning two industry training awards.

In 2018 Simon founded Bristol & Bath Heritage Consultancy Limited, which has worked for a range of clients in sectors including urban regeneration, student accommodation, residential, renewable energy, hospitality, the emergency services and national heritage bodies.
